Electric Pole segmentation in Google Street View Images

Abstract

The Google Street View API offers many relevant information to the area of computer vision as images and their respective depth maps. This informations can be used, e.g., for 3D modeling and pattern recognition. This paper presents an approach based on histograms and edge detection in order to find utility pole from Street View images. Initial results indicate that the method can be used in the pre-processing of the images stage to reduce the area of interest which will be examined in the following steps the pattern recognition system.
